Inner Wheel is an international women’s Voluntary Service Organisation with more than 103.700 members in 101 countries on all the continents. The first Inner Wheel club was founded on 10 January, 1924 in Manchester in England. In Slovenia the first Inner Wheel club was founded in Ljubljana in 1998. Currently there are 36 members in the IW club of Ljubljana, the sister organisation of Rotary club.
In the year 2000, the second Slovene Inner Wheel club was established in Maribor, bringing together more than 20 members. Both our Inner Wheel clubs have been involved in a number of activities, covering the fields of education, health service, care for children, for refugees, for old people…
In the first nine years, the Inner Wheel club of Ljubljana carried out all its activities in a spirit of friendship, helping persons in need, children in the first place, understanding and overcoming differences of all kinds and most of all, in a spirit of respect, mutual understanding and recognition, the most important qualities of human relationship. The members of our club have been particularly proud of their activities carried out to help the Bosnian children in a refugee camp in Kozina. The project was met with a wide response. The members of the IW club of Ljubljana have, in a role of godmothers, taken care of three school children from the Home of Malči Belič, providing for them their monthly pocket money and help with the school work. The club members have helped a number of young talents to continue their studies, on the other hand, in the framework of the project “A Sparkle in children’s eyes”, help and assistance have been provided for the families and children who needed help most.
