LET US STRENGTHEN OUR FRIENDSHIP, LET US ILLUMINATE IT! DO WE KNOW EACH OTHER?

The inscription at the entrance to the Temple of Apollo in Delphi (the Ancient Greek aphorism "Know yourself" Greek: gnothi seauton or gnothi seauton), inscribed in the pronaos (forecourt) of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi) was the starting point of my today’s reflection.

Friendship – what is it? Who is my friend? Do I know him/her and, even more significant, do I know myself? Who am I? What am I like?

The answers to these questions pave the way to any relationship and any friendship. The word “friendship” is a very extensive word, frequently used too fast and too easily even within Rotary and Inner Wheel where the word “friendship” has been written in capital letters. The meaning of friendship, from the psychological point of view, is the immeasurable and the most important message for persons enabling them to act as human beings. The very essential has been hidden deep inside each human being. The more we value ourselves the more we are able and capable of valuing others, in this way rendering impossible all the envy and aggressiveness and neutralizing it. The contact with others can only be made if a person’s heart opens to others, respecting them despite the difference of opinions. Sometimes we realize that the people we meet are much closer to us than we have thought at the beginning. They should only be given a possibility to come closer to us and get better understood.

Let us look at our own image in the mirror and try to find out who we are. Only then will we be able to get to know others. Let my final thought be: “Discover yourself and you will learn how to understand others!”
