Welcome to the homepage of Inner Wheel club of Ljubljana, Slovenia, a charitable association aiming at helping children, young persons and families in need.

The Inner Wheel club of Ljubljana, chartered in 1998 has been closely connected to the Rotary club of Ljubljana, Slovenia. It has been a part of the international network of Inner Wheel, a worldwide organization with over eighty years of tradition and with over 100.000 members in more than 100 countries worldwide, from Europe to Africa, India, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America and Canada. There are thirty-six members in the IW club of Ljubljana, joined together to participate in perceiving and overcoming social differences by their compassion, readiness and willingness to help the persons in need.

We are certain that the feeling of warmth and safety within a family home is one of the most important aspects necessary for a successful upbringing, guidance, development of talents and education of the young. Nevertheless, there are a lot of parents who have been unable to provide for a safe and happy household for their children. The reason for such a problem has been, among many others, the economic weakness. Very often it has driven the parents and their children consequently into a social exclusion and a major distress. Struggling along on the day to day basis it has been impossible for the parents to see the light at the end of the tunnel and to believe in a better future. Even a very moderate financial assistance to such families can often make all the difference and help them find the way out of the vicious circle of problems. In this respect we have been aiming at fulfilling our own goals and living up to our common values through a fruitful cooperation with “the Spark of Nedeljski” (a Slovene magazine) which has helped us find the families and persons in need of some help on their way out of distress towards a better tomorrow.

Some children cannot be brought up in their own families because of a number of reasons. They live in the Home of Malči Belič, an institution for children who have had unhappy experience at their own homes and have been affected and hurt by their social status and very often health problems too. The professional staff of the Home of Malči Belič have been trying their very best to make each and every day the best possible time for “their” children and teenagers, their protégés. And where there is an immense pain there is never enough of love and support. The members of our club have become godmothers to three of the children from the Home of Malči Belič in Ljubljana. We have been helping them with their school work, often visiting them, talking to them as well as giving them monthly some pocket money. In return, many a time have we been surprised by their hand made presents which they had made themselves showing us that there have been no limits for human kindness and children’s imagination and creativity.

The members of the Inner Wheel club of Ljubljana have been aware of the simple truth that the unselfish help to the persons in need cannot be considered a privilege, on the contrary, it is the most fundamental human attitude and the most important ingredient of the very special substance which binds the individuals into a community.
